The South Africa national football team, Bafana Bafana, is governed by the South African Football Association (SAFA) and competes in CAF. The team plays home matches at FNB Stadium (Soccer City) in Johannesburg and wears yellow and green.

South Africa hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup — the first African nation to do so — and became the first host not to advance from the group stage. However, the tournament was widely celebrated as a success for African football and the nation. Bafana Bafana won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1996 on home soil. The country produced legends including Doctor Khumalo and Benni McCarthy, the nation's all-time top scorer.
