The Uruguay national football team, La Celeste, is governed by the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) and competes in CONMEBOL. The team plays home matches at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo and wears light blue.

Despite a population of just 3.5 million, Uruguay is one of the most successful football nations in history. They won the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930 and the 1950 tournament with the legendary Maracanazo — defeating Brazil in Rio. Uruguay has won the Copa América a record 15 times. Key players include Diego Forlán, Luis Suárez, Diego Godín, and Darwin Núñez.
